HMO Enrollee Regional Outreach and Information Centers (HEROIC)

The Office of the Patient Advocate provides funding to 14 consumer organizations to provide consumer education, awareness and assistance to HMO Enrollees in California.

In 2006 CFILC was awarded a grant by the California Department of Managed Care Office of the Patient Advocate under Track 4  HEROIC Disability Population to reach people with disabilities who are HMO enrollees to educate them about California's managed Care System, the Office of the Patient Advocate and the HMO Help Center.

Under the Grant, CFILC will:

  • Educate a diverse group of statewide and regional

    disability organizations to disseminate materials to people with disabilities about their rights and responsibilities as HMO enrollees.
  • Collaborate with HEROIC local and statewide organizations to teach disability cultural competency skills and exchange ideas for CFILC to become more culturally competent to serve a diverse group of HMO enrollees.
  • Reach people with disabilities who are HMO enrollees in underserved areas not covered by the HEROIC local organizations.
