Job Description

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

YO! is CFILC’s statewide youth with disabilities action network, focused on Connecting, Educating and Organizing youth with disabilities aged 16-29 throughout California. We achieve this through the development of statewide and regional Youth Advocacy Summits, and an ongoing statewide communication network that includes a YO! Information and referral line, an interactive website, a listserv and social networking opportunities for youth with disabilities. YO! is focused on developing leadership, identifying issues, organizing to take collective action, mentorship and volunteering in our communities to create social change.  To learn more go to: www.yodisabledproud.org

OVERVIEW OF THE POSTION:

Under the direction of the Deputy Director and the Youth Organizer, the YO! Volunteer will engage youth organizing using social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook. The YO! Volunteer may provide assistance in answering the YO! Information and Referral Line, and perform resource development and data input for activities related to the YO! Line database. The YO! Volunteer may also assist in organizing activities for all YO! program goals.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in organizing of activities related to CFILC’s Youth Organizing! Disabled & Proud program.
  • Assist in organizing events that are youth led and youth driven, such as summits, community forums, trainings and leadership events.
  • Assist in answering the YO! Information and Referral Line.
  • Assist in the collection and data input of YO! line data for reporting, and YO! database resource development.
  • Assist in developing online content for YO! website.
  • Develop social network presence for youth organizing activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma OR General Educational Equivalent OR one year of experience in disability or youth organizing.
  • Computer experience including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter.
  • Ability to communicate with youth and adults.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to initiate projects and work with supervision. 
  • Ability to plan and provide information to youth about local resources and events.
  • Ability to operate in a computer-based office environment.
  • Ability to make a commitment to 16 hours per month for a minimum of one semester. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual
  • Personal experience with a disability
  • Experience working with youth with disabilities
  • Familiarity with disability issues that impact youth

STIPEND: $100/per month
