CFILC 2007 Legislative Priorities
The California Foundation for Independent Living Centers is a statewide non-profit organization made up of 26 member ILCs. Through unified action, CFILC envisions civil rights for all people with disabilities. CFILC's mission is to support independent living centers in their local communities through advocating for systems change and promoting access and integration for people with disabilities.
CFILC's priorities include the implementation of Olmstead, increasing the availablity of affordable accessible Housing, increasing access to public Transportation, increasing physical and program Access to public buildings and privately owned businesses, increasing access to Voting systems and polling places, increasing access to Healthcare and Assistive Technology and Emergency Preparedness Resources and Planning.
Public Policy Priority Criteria
In February, 2005, the Board of Directors met to discuss how to prioritize legislation. At that time, the Board elected to set criteria for following and prioritizing legislation. The criteria developed included the following broad standards. Prioritized legislation should:
· Follow Olmstead Principles.
· Create significant impact for people with disabilities.
· Affect individuals on a state-wide basis.
· Involve multiple types of disabilities.
