Congress is now debating critical changes to American's healthcare system. It is vital that people with disabilities raise their voices to ensure that reforms remove barriers and increase access to affordable healthcare for people with disabilities.
Support Disability History Week
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed by President George H. W. Bush on July 26, 1990. Despite the ADA's importantce many Americans are unfamiliar with the events that led to its passage. Disability History Week would increase instruction and activites about disability history in California's schools.
Protect Children with Disabilities from Harmful Seclusion & Restraint in Schools
A government report found hundreds of cases of alleged abuse and death related to the use of these methods on school children during the past two decades.
These abusive practices were used disproportionately on children with disabilities. HR 4247 (S.2860) was introduced in the House and Senate to prevent and reduce inappropriate restraint and seclusion by establishing minimum safety standards.
